MOSCOW, June 14 — RIA Novosti, Marina Kirpichevskaya. The social network VKontakte has begun removing illegal music, apparently in preparation for the adoption of the anti-piracy law, reports Digit.ru, citing State Duma Deputy Robert Schlegel (United Russia), a member of the working group on the "anti-piracy" bill.
In recent days, many users of the network have seen notifications on their pages instead of their favorite music, stating that “the audio recording… has been removed from public access following a request from the copyright holder.”
“In fact, there is no more pirated resource in Russia than VKontakte. They need to think about how to sell content and sign agreements with copyright holders, just like YouTube does,” Schlegel commented. According to the deputy, listeners should respect their favorite music authors and understand that they need to earn money by selling their creations.
